Stunning Detian Falls straddle the China, Vietnam border shining with brilliant, jewel-like colour.   Consisting of several tiers of water that gush over its edges, the falls stretch more than 200 metres and are surrounded by beautiful limestone karsts.  Water flow varies throughout the year, however regardless of the season I am sure they maintain their simple magnificence.

Jiuzhaigou is spectacular Chinese alpine scenery, a world heritage site and world biosphere protected area in mountainous northern Sichuan, peppered with brilliantly coloured lakes and waterfalls ensconced amongst dense forest.

I was totally blown away by this place when I first visited in 1997.   It was early October and the magnificence of fall was in full swing. The trees were all shades of crimson, orange and yellow contrasting beautifully against the jewel coloured lakes.

The images you see here were taken when I visited at the end of May 2002 and were shot using the gorgeous Fuji Velvia slide film -the impossibly green forests and brilliantly coloured, sparkling water that you see in the images is in my mind exactly how it looked – simply stunning!!!

I love stormy weather and the magnificent clouds and skies they create, yesterday was one of those days along Great Ocean Road on Australia’s southern edge.

Something I have missed about Australia are the fantastic cloud formations you see in the cooler months on those stormy days.

This particular day I was in literally in the middle of nowhere on a very flat, quite barren stretch of countryside in south west New South Wales – out the left hand side of the car the clouds were more like fluffy tufts of cotton wool lingering.  The real drama though was out of the right hand car window.  Occasional banks of stormy cloud clusters coupled with the mid afternoon winter sun angling through gave a fantastic effect.

The few images here were taken using the Lens Baby Composer and a bit of processing to add a bit of an abstract touch.

Dragon River Reflections, Yangshuo, China

This is an image from one of my favorite places in the world – Yangshuo!

The limestone karsts and surrounding landscape are carpeted with lush green vegetation and rice fields during the warmer months.   Simply add a light mist and there you are living smack bang in the middle of one of those traditional Chinese paintings.

This particular day though was clear with sparkling blue skies lightly spotted with small puffy clouds.  The river was still enough to provide wonderful reflections with just a few ripples from a very light breeze on the right hand side.

For me the processing, which is on the way to being “infrared”, helps to highlight the features of this stunning landscape.
